Goals

The coalition’s primary goals are:

  • Increasing community collaboration
  • Reducing youth substance use

Target Populations

The coalition’s efforts are primarily directed at:

  • Youth (8th to 12th graders)
  • Parents of these youth
  • Other adults in the community

Approach

To achieve these goals, the coalition implements various initiatives aimed at limiting access to substances, reshaping the context in which decisions about substance use are made, and shifting the consequences associated with youth substance use. Some of our activities include:

  • Alcohol compliance checks in partnership with the Wauconda Police Department to ensure local liquor establishments follow the law.
  • Targeted advertising campaigns with the Wauconda Park District.
  • Events and campaigns with Wauconda High School.
  • Social norms campaigns to change perceptions around substance use.
  • Social media awareness and sticker shock campaigns to spread critical messages throughout the community.

A Federally Funded Effort

Choose Your Path is generously supported by a federal Drug-Free Communities grant and all services are offered free of charge to residents of School District 118 and nearby areas.
