Empowering Youth Through In-School Programming Since 1994
Our Legacy of Prevention
For over 30 years, Nicasa Behavioral Health Services has been dedicated to providing evidence-based prevention curricula and services to school children throughout Lake County.
Our Current Focus
Too Good For Drugs (TGFD)
In response to rising trends in youth substance use, bullying, and peer violence, we have adopted the Too Good For Drugs (TGFD) curriculum. TGFD is currently offered in 9 middle schools throughout Waukegan, Mundelein, Wauconda, and Island Lake.
This program focuses on reducing risk factors for alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs by teaching students:
- Decision-making skills
- Positive communication
- Identifying and managing emotions
- Building prosocial connections
- Resisting negative influences
Our staff educates students on the appropriate use of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and the risks of opioids and fentanyl and how to resist negative influences, and assists youth in setting goals for healthy relationships and lifestyle choices.
