Do I need to go into an office for treatment, or can I receive gambling counseling online?
The answer depends on your individual circumstances.
At Nicasa Behavioral Health Services, we offer flexible gambling treatment options, including fully virtual, in-person, and hybrid gambling treatment services. This allows us to tailor treatment to your needs while making support more accessible.
Virtual Problem Gambling Treatment
For many people, virtual counseling can remove barriers to getting help.
With virtual services, you may be able to meet with your gambling counselor from home or another appropriate private location. This can help if transportation, work, childcare, or distance makes in-person appointments difficult.
Virtual treatment may also feel like a more comfortable way to begin talking about gambling.
For some clients, fully virtual gambling treatment may be appropriate.
In-Person Problem Gambling Treatment
In-person counseling lets you meet face-to-face with a counselor at a Nicasa location.
Some people prefer in-person appointments because their treatment needs make on-site services appropriate, they value having a dedicated space for their counseling sessions, or feel more comfortable connecting face-to-face.
Nicasa has locations throughout Lake County, with gambling services available by appointment at its Round Lake, Waukegan, and Highland Park locations.
Hybrid Problem Gambling Treatment
You do not necessarily have to choose one format and stick with it.
A hybrid approach may let you complete many appointments virtually while attending periodic in-person sessions as needed.
This can provide flexibility while still allowing face-to-face care when it is clinically appropriate.
What About Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Use Concerns?
This is an important consideration when choosing between virtual and in-person treatment.
Gambling concerns can occur alongside mental health and/or substance use concerns. Nicasa recognizes that co-occurring conditions require an integrated approach to care.
If you have co-occurring needs, fully virtual gambling treatment may not be appropriate for every part of your care. Your treatment team may recommend in-person appointments, additional services, or a combination of virtual and in-person care.
That does not mean you cannot start by asking about virtual services. Your treatment plan should reflect your complete needs.
Which Option Is Best?
There is no single right answer.
Virtual counseling may be a good fit if convenience, transportation, or privacy matter. In-person counseling may be preferable if you benefit from face-to-face interaction or need services that must be provided on-site. Hybrid treatment can offer a combination of both.
Nicasa’s team can help you understand which options may be appropriate for your situation. The important thing is to find a treatment option that makes it accessible for you to get support.

Virtual services are subject to individual assessment, clinical appropriateness, and any applicable mandated service requirements. Individuals with co-occurring behavioral health needs may require in-person or additional services.
