Your generosity gives someone a second chance, a way out, a goal. Your donation gives someone they help they need and hope for a brighter future. Your support makes a difference in the lives of men, women, and youth throughout northern Illinois.

This year, donations made to Nicasa for #GivingTuesday will be used for the Teen Court program.  Our goal is to raise more than $10,000!

Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County will match new or increased donations up to $10,000 so we can DOUBLE our impact for Teen Court!

Since 1995, when Nicasa Behavioral Health Services piloted Teen Court:

  • 3,700 middle and high school students have been offenders in Teen Court and had their case heard by a jury of their peers.
  • 2,650 high school students participated in Teen Court as volunteer jurors, bailiffs, and lawyers, and helped their fellow students develop delinquency-free identities
  • Less than 10% of teenagers who successfully completed Teen Court reoffended over the next three years – compared to a state-wide juvenile recidivism rate of 50%.
  • Each youthful offender saves the community hundreds of dollars in criminal court costs.
  • Each youth that turns away from delinquency makes our communities and schools safer for us all.

Based on the principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ), Teen Court ensures that

  • The victim’s perspective is central to deciding how to repair the harm caused by the crime.
  • The juvenile offender accepts responsibility and acts to repair the harm done.
  • All human beings, including the offender and the victim, have dignity and worth.
  • The process is respectful of age, abilities, sexual orientation, family status, and diverse cultures and backgrounds — whether racial, ethnic, geographic, religious, economic, or other — and all are given equal protection and due process.
  • In repairing the wrongs that were committed, the offender feels more connected to his school and the community.

Lake County has seven teen courts:

Gurnee Teen Court
North Chicago Teen Court
Round Lake Teen Court
Round Lake Beach Teen Court #1
Round Lake Beach Teen Court #2
Waukegan Teen Court
Zion Teen Court

Any Teen Court that raises more than $2000 will receive a pizza party.
The Teen Court that raises the most will receive a Grand Prize.
Donations received between November 20, 2018 and December 4, 2018 can be designated to the Teen Court of your choice.
So let’s support the youth of Lake County by supporting Teen Court!
